Top 10 toddler snacks on the go
Grab and go snacks
When you're out and about it's a good idea to pack some snacks for your toddler.
Our members have shared their top 'grab and go' snacks that you can quickly pop in your bag.
Of course in some cases check whether your little one is old enough for the snacks. Find some useful information in our food guide.
1. Breadsticks
Breadsticks are a brilliant 'grab and go' snack. You can even buy mini ones and little packets of breadsticks that are easy to shove in your bag when you're leaving the house.
They're super easy for little hands to hold and chew too.
2. Cereal
Fill a snack pot or little freezer bag with cereal – pick the ones your little one likes and let them munch on the dry cereal like a healthier version of a packet of crisps!
3. Muffins
Muffins are a brilliant treat for out and about. They can be sweet and packed with fruit, or savoury with hidden veg – great for helping your little one get their five-a-day.
Just look out for muffins that aren't too high in sugar or salt for your little one.
If you fancy making your own, we have loads of healthy muffin recipes to try. Many can even be frozen, so you can make them ahead of time and always have snacks ready to go at the start of each day.
4. Rice cakes
Rice cakes are such an easy choice of snack. You can even buy mini ones and ones with different flavours (in the baby aisles).
They make easy, tasty and filling snacks to keep little ones going until the next meal.
5. Dried fruit
Little boxes of raisins can be a life saver – and can keep a toddler happy for ages as they munch their way down the box.
Look for other dried fruits too - such as dried bananas, mango slices and perhaps even make up your own mix of dried fruits as a grab and go snack.
It's best for your toddlers teeth if you offer dried fruit with a meal, though.
6. Crackers and oatcakes
Oatckes and crackers are an easy snack to shove in your bag for trips out.
You can buy them in little snack pack sizes or just wrap one or two in clingfilm or in a snack pot (to avoid finding them in a mass of crumbs at the bottom of your bag later!).
7. Fruit/veg sticks
Chop up sticks or cubes of fruit and veg for your baby to nibble on whilst they are out.
You can use any of your little one's favourite fruits and vegetables. Carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, apple slices, melon slices ...
Have a packet of wipes handy to mop up sticky dribbles!
8. Squeezy fruit sachets
Another great snack is the squeezy fruit and veg sachets. You can pick them up in your supermarket and in many other shops from brands like Ella's Kitchen, Organix and Plum.
They are made up of yummy fruit and veg purees which are so easy for your little one to eat.
9. Pitta triangles
Cut up triangles or strips of pitta bread for a more filling snack.
You can buy white or wholegrain and even buy mini whole pittas which are ideal for little hands to hold too.
10. Muesli/granola bars
There are some fab and tasty muesli/granola bars available to buy especially for little ones – these make a filling and delicious snack.
Or if you have the time (and energy) then make your own. Here's a recipe from one of our members.
