How to claim your £700 free cash grant to help with the cost of living
The money will be paid direct to households who weren't eligible for the DWP's £900 cost of living payments
Thousands of struggling families are in line for a £700 payout – and the money will be paid directly into bank accounts.
The cash boost comes from the government, and is filtered to residents via local councils, through the Household Support Fund (HSF).
Once a local authority is in receipt of the funding, it is up to them how they spend it; some might give out vouchers, others might hand out items such as air-fryers and slow cookers, to enable families to cook more efficiently and save money on energy bills.
In Newcastle, the local authority is distributing its share of the Household Support Fund to residents on Housing Benefit who are not eligible for the Government's £900 cost of living payment, in the form of a cash grant. You can see here a list of what support is available, area by area.
- £250 cash payments for low-income families
- 22 million people to get DWP cash bonus
- Discounted days out for Universal Credit claimants
- Shoppers are swapping jeans for £17 M&S bum-lifting leggings
- DWP benefits payment dates for August 2023
- Thousands of parents to get £150 supermarket vouchers
- New Universal Credit rule affecting thousands is coming this autumn

All those who qualify for help will be contacted by the end of this month.
Can I get help if I don't live in Newcastle?
