The VERY emotional 'last day' of primary school post all year 6 parents can relate to
If you have a youngster leaving Year 6 this week, you will totally relate to this!
There's a REALLY emotional poem doing the rounds on social media at the moment about the very last time you walk your kids to primary school.
As the end of term fast approaches, it's a VERY real scenario for many mums and dads (and all the more heartbreakingly poignant if it's your last child at primary, or if you only have the 1 little one). *wails*
And while we all obviously want to see our children spread their wings and become more independent and take those next big important steps in life at secondary school, it's still tough on the heartstrings.
Because it really is the end of an era.

'Walk your child to school one last time this week'
The poem totally sums up every single feel we have as we do that final primary-years school run!
It's been shared loads both on Facebook and Instagram, and (get the tissues ready), it reads:
Year 6 parents
Walk your child to school one last time this week.
Even if they don't want you to.
Laugh about the sticks they used to collect or the paintings they so carefully carried.
Reminisce about their sports days and how funny they were in their nativity.
Tell them how proud you are of them and how existed you are to see them grow.
Remember how little their hands was when you held it on the first day of reception.
Hold that hand again as you walk with them one last time.
You've done a great job.
Gets you right in the feels, doesn't it!
(No, YOU'RE CRYING!)
One of the places it was shared this week was on Instagram by TV personality and mum-of-2 Sarah Cawood, who captioned her post:
'It’s time year 6 mummies. Let’s try and love it as much as it will hurt too…#year6leavers#leavingprimaryschool#primaryschoolleavers#bawling'
And her followers were quick to agree that this last week is the most emotionally charged time in the school calendar!
'I'm not ready for this week.. tho he is 100% ready π', said 1 mum.
'I’ve cried so much already this week! So many things ending, I’ll be a wreck come Friday. β€οΈ' wailed another.
'Probably one of the most bitter sweet moments of my life when my now 24 year old daughter left year 6 β€οΈ' added a third (eeeek though - we are never going to have an end to this melancholy, are we?!)
And a teacher chipped in, too, proving it's not just us parents who find the last day a bit weepy!
'And their teachers will miss them too β€οΈ we’re all bereft seeing our Year 6s go - I’m sure H’s teachers will be feeling the same!'
Awwwww!
'Not ready for this'
The post was also doing the rounds on Twitter, and over on Facebook, where it got just as many moist-eyed replies as it had on Sarah's Insta.
'Not ready for this!' wrote one parent.
'Stoooooooppp!' begged another.
'Ahh that's set me off again! My daughter's year 6 and leaving on Thursday...' fessed up a third, adding: 'Leavers assembly this afternoon, I'm gonna be a mess!'
'It is a very emotional time. Things are sadly never the same once they start big school,' lamented another.
