A TikToker has shared how she saves serious money on her IKEA deliveries by following a simple hack – 'Why did no-one tell me this was an option'

Shoppers have discovered a way to cheat the system and slash the IKEA delivery fee.

A mum-to-be shared the hack on her TikTok where she labelled the usual £45 delivery fee as 'genuine extortion'.

But – she shared a way to cut this down to just £5.

'I've always refused to pay the £45 delivery fee on IKEA,' she explained, before telling viewers about the newly discovered hack.

'Why did no-one tell me this was an option'

The TikToker, Astin Maisie, who goes by @dazeymais on the platform, explained that she would usually have to drive to IKEA but often she couldn't fit everything she needed in her 'tiny car' – and besides, her nearest store is miles away.

'A lot of the time I'm not buying what I needed to buy,' she said.

It all came to a head when she wanted to buy a bookshelf and didn't want to pay the delivery.

'I'm not paying £45 when the bookshelf is £40,' she explained, adding 'I need this bookshelf'.

But all was not lost as she told viewers a way around the issue.

'I've discovered that you can pay £5 and get it delivered to a storage facility near you,' she said.

This means she can now get her IKEA items sent just a five minutes drive from her house.

'Why did no-one tell me that this was an option?' she asked. 'IKEA - take my money!'

£5 delivery – or even free

On the IKEA website, it shows the different delivery preferences you can choose from. This includes four cheaper options than direct delivery to your home:

Pick up from the store – you can click and collect your order from all UK IKEA stores (apart from Stockport) completely for free.

Collect from a mobile pick-up point – situated in Tesco car parks, you can collect your items for £5 if the order is under £100, or if it's over that, it's completely free.

These are only available in set collection windows in certain Tescos.

DPD pick-up points are available for small parcel orders. This includes local convenience stores, post offices and more via DPD pick-up points.

And locker pick-up points, as mentioned by Astin. With these delivery points, you can collect your items from a Shift self-serve locker. These are available for the following time slots:

  • 07:00 to 11:00
  • 17:00 to 21:00

All of these are available when ordering through the IKEA website.

Find your local pick-up point here.

'I'm not paying it'

While people loved Astin's hack in the comments, many were outraged by IKEA's initial cost.

A comment read: 'I paid the £45 delivery fee for a £25 cupboard door. 😥😥'

Another said: 'I have to rely on my dad going for me 🤣'

A third exclaimed: 'Yeh I'm not paying it either.'

'What a slay honestly'

While another suggested other options: 'For people with no cars, they also have a delivery service if you buy in store. You leave your shopping with them and they deliver.'

Astin replied: 'Yessss this but doesn’t this still cost the £45? 🙃🥺'

But the poster explained: 'No it cost less, for me personally an xl uber cost more than what they offered. It depends how far from the ikea you live.'

Another reply stated: 'My local tesco do ikea click and collect now too!'

To which Astin said: 'What a slay honestly.'

Viewers also tried other IKEA methods: 'If you’re only getting something small it’s cheaper. I paid £2 for a vase to be delivered to my corner shop.'

Others clarified how to get the hack: 'It shows up as an option under delivery options.'
