Injury lawyer's warning over three things he'd never buy his kids

An injury lawyer has issued a warning over which toys parents should never buy

A safety expert has revealed the top three toys he would never buy his kids.

Most parents probably assume toys bought from shops or online will be automatically safety checked and safe to give their little ones.

But some toys have hidden dangers that can make them harmful – and even have potentially life-threatening risks, according to one expert.

Therefore, parents might want to to check their kids' stocking fillers and gifts this Christmas and maybe have a re-think as they could be potentially dangerous.

'Beware of hidden dangers'

Injury lawyer Tommy John Kherkher, who calls himself Tommy The Lawyer on his Tik Tok account, has warned parents that some baby equipment and toys contain hidden dangers that they need to be aware of.

The safety expert and legal mastermind said some toys and baby equipment which seem harmless can cause injury and even death.

In a post which has gone viral with over 388k likes, the lawyer reveals that there are three things he would never buy as a parent, no matter how many times his kids asked for them.

'Crazy dangerous'

The first thing on his list which was a hard ‘no’ for him was any kind of toy that contains small button batteries.

The button batteries – if they fell out and were ingested – can cause catastrophic injury and even death.

He said: ‘Those things are crazy dangerous.

‘If a child swallows one by accident, it gets lodged in their oesophagus or in their windpipe.’

He added: ‘Due to the chemical mixture within the batteries, they can erode the oesophagus and burn a hole in it in a matter of minutes.’

'Dangerous intestinal blockages'

The second thing on his 'banned list' were an item that went viral on Tik Tok this year, with children all over the world demanding their parents buy them.

The risky item is water beads, which can be used for sensory play but are extremely dangerous if ingested.

The soft gel-like beads are designed to be colourful pellets which expand in water, and are used in all kinds of fun activities.

But the lawyer said that they can lead to dangerous intestinal blockages – even if a child swallows just one.

He said: ‘Even just swallowing or ingesting one of these has cause intestinal obstructions.

He added that there have been ‘multiple reports’ of problems linked to the toy.

Tiny Hearts Education - which works to educate parents on everything health and safety related, issued a warning last December about gel beads after a baby girl almost lost her life after swallowing just one.

Baby 'sleeping' chairs

Finally, the third item on Tommy’s danger list was the incline bouncer chair for babies.

He said an ‘incline sleeper’ seat for newborns should never be used to rock a little one off to sleep – as their head could flop forwards and obstruct their airway.

He said: ‘The bottom line is, babies should always be sleeping flat on their back and not at an incline.

‘Their heads can lean forward causing their airway to block.’

The sleeper seats were originally marketed as being safe for babies to doze off in, but in recent years have come under criticism and led to safety recalls.
