Mum horrified to discover just how dirty her kid's building blocks really are
The TikToker shared footage of herself washing the blocks in the bath, with shocking results
We all know our child's favourite toys can get a little grubby. Especially when it's dropped on the floor (or in their dinner) repeatedly.
But one mum was in shock after realising just how dirty her toddler's building blocks actually were. Warning: don't read this if you're eating!
Posting on TikTok, mum Dawn showed herself washing the popular toys in the bath.
'At first I was like "ooh, this is pretty π" then I went real quick from that to π¬π€’,' she said.

'Realising how dirty they actually were'
In the TikTok, Dawn, who goes by @dawno.saur on the app, shared a video of the building blocks in the bath.
She can be seen stirring the bathwater around with a wooden spoon with the soaped-up blocks moving around the tub.
And in the video, which now has 1.3 million views, she explained:
'POV: your toddler spills an entire cup of coffee into their Mega Bloks bin.
'Now you're stirring them around in your bathtub realising how dirty they actually were.'
The water is tinged with a grey hue hinting at something more than just coffee covering the blocks.
'I didn’t need to see this'
Other parents found themselves cleaning toys too.
One parent resonated: 'A glimpse into my future after accidentally spilling Dr. Pepper in my son’s LEGO bin the other day π₯²'
Another said: 'My childhood cat once peed all over our Lego. My mum had to clean each individual piece it took days πππ'
While a teacher weighed in: 'Teacher here: When I washed and deep-cleaned all the resources from the previous teacher, everyone around me mocked me. Little do they know how much germs and bacteria settle in these things π±.'
Others were disappointed at having to add the job to their regular cleaning list.
'Suddenly you realise this gets added to monthly chores π,' one said.
Another parent said: 'I didn’t need to see this π'
While a viewer said: 'Is it bad I just would have wiped them off and called it a day LOL.'

How to clean building blocks
Other parents gave Dawn tips on how to clean the toys more easily – but not all are recommended!
One said: 'You can put them in a zip bag or tie a suitcase and put them in the machine btw.'
While another said: 'This happened to me. Found out they are dishwasher safe!'
A third suggested: 'I just put them in the washer on cold light wash out quick wash.'
But one TikTok user made the point: 'Everyone commenting the washing machine as if that's not gonna sound like a stampede in your laundry πβ οΈ.'
Dawn agreed: 'This is ALL I can think when people say that π .'
Depending on the type of building block, they might not be safe for dishwashers or washing machines.
In its FAQs, Mattel said: 'We recommend that you clean your Mega Bloks® building blocks by hand with warm water or a damp cloth.
'You can air-dry parts at room temperature or use a dry cloth. Please do not put Mega Bloks® building blocks in washing machines or dishwashers or attempt to dry them in ovens, microwaves, or by using a hair dryer.'
