For the base

  • 250g self-raising flour

  • 150ml milk

  • 35g butter

For the topping

  • Tomato purée

  • Mushrooms

  • Mozzarella (or cheat and use cheddar)

  • Fresh basil (optional)

  1. Preheat your oven to 220ºC/425ºF/Gas mark 7

For the base

  1. Mix the flour, milk and butter in a bowl - it should come together as a dough

  2. Flour your work surface and put the dough on it, knead it lightly to bring all the bits together and work the butter and milk right through it - roll the dough out to a 10 inch pizza size and place it on a floured baking tray

For the topping

  1. Squirt tomato purée onto the pizza and spread it thinly, to within 2cm of the edge - sprinkle the cheese evenly then add the ham and mushrooms to taste

  2. Finally, sprinkle the herbs and add a drizzle of olive oil

  3. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese has fully melted and the pizza has crisped up

You will need

Pizza tray - We really like this durable pizza pan with special aerating holes, which will create a crispy crust on shop-bought, frozen and homemade pizzas. You can get it at Amazon for £6.49.

Mixer - This hand mixer from VonShef is the perfect kitchen all rounder and it's available at Amazon for £24.99.

Variations

Adding different toppings; pineapple, ham, chillies, peppers... whatever takes your fancy

Experiment with different cheeses too; goats cheese, mascarpone, gorgonzola etc

Wow so easy, the kids almost entirely made it on their own which they loved. You need to roll the base out thinly as this dough is very dry. And add a good Jamie Oliver glug of olive oil.

Possibly the simplest recipe I've ever come across! And my little boy loved it (as did I!) only thing I'll do differently next time is roll the dough out a bit thinner, mine rose a bit more than I anticipated. Tip for others; I used frozen mushrooms on mine (didn't have any fresh in) just quickly fried them first and it worked out really well.

Being a Dad with only a short skill set when it comes to cooking this is an ideal receipe. I got the kids invovled which makes me look more capable in the kitchen. I was able to give the kids cart blanche on toppings and it was so easy to follow.

As good a pizza as you can make. (Though it takes dedication to resist the temptation of Aldi's excellent ones that cost less than the ingredients for this!)
