How to make a Dorothy costume – Wizard of Oz

This is not so much a no sew costume as a costume you can put together by finding different props and items of clothing. If you don't have any of the things you need try charity shops, eBay or ask friends if they have any items you can borrow. It's such a quick and easy costume – perfect for World Book Day.

Dorothy needs her ruby slippers (otherwise how will she get back home?)

Look for red shoes such as tap shoes, sparkly pumps or if you can't find any red ones, spray some white shoes instead.

Now you need a blue and white gingham dress. Summer school uniform dresses are ideal and really cheap to buy (check supermarkets or ask around as someone is bound to have one you can borrow).

Pop a white t-shirt underneath.

Now you need to find a small basket and a soft toy dog (for Toto).

Plait your daughter's hair or put in bunches and tie with red or gingham ribbon.
