We went in the summer for one of the jousting events with 3 kids aged 3-6. It was a real day to remember. Going inside castle itself wasn't so interesting for the smaller ones, so I wouldn't bother with this until they are a bit older. However, the jousting was great. You meet the 'king' and 'queen' outside the castle and everyone processes up to the tournament which adds to the excitement. It was a hot day and the water maze was perfect. We spent lots of time there, getting splashed on purpose to cool off. There's also a good adventure playground with another maze. We didn't get as far as the Yew Maze as little legs were very tired by this point (be prepared for lots of walking). Loads of picnic space in the lovely grounds. Not a cheap day, but fun for the whole family and one my kids still talk about.

i can second what is said below, hever castle is fab, i have even brought a yearly pass for the whole family as they have so many events during holidays. My 2 nearly 3 year old and ten year old both loved the jousting last year, it was great entertainment and it is a beautiful place for young or old.
