I've started this sentence about 6 times , so much that I want to get out that's suppressed but it just goes against my "not feeling sorry for myself attitude" ...ughhh I'm just so tired and fed up ...I've had a dark cloud over me for many years now , it showed itself in many forms , anxiety , social anxiety, depression etc etc ...only now at nearly 35 I'm realising that actually this is a problem and it's affecting me in everyday of my life ....I just feel so alone and to be fair ,I practically am , sometimes I feel so ***** I look at my phone thinking who to ring and there just isn't anyone ...so yeah ...guess I'm feeling this way for many reasons but I'm wondering will anti depressants help? ...I've never been on any medication etc so I'm just wondering how it's going to change things for me ....if anyone reads this , can you enlighten me ?

Either way , thank you ...sometimes it's just good to get things out your head

Hi Siobhan

I'm Catherine, one of the Parent Supporters here at Netmums. Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you have noticed that over the years you have had a 'dark cloud' and you are wondering about whether anti-depressants might be helpful. Siobhan, have you ever had any previous support for how you are feeling like counselling? Could you have a chat with your GP? They would normally be the first point of contact and can chat you through options and may also signpost you to other supports such as talking therapy. Do you have anyone to support you at the moment like a family member or friend? MIND is also a helpful website with lots of info about mental health and you might find this article a helpful read: About antidepressants - Mind

Hopefully some of our Netmums community will be along soon to offer support but do come back to us if you would like to chat some more

Meds and or counselling could work .

Please go to your GP

The wait on the NHS for counselling could be long so if you could afford a few private ones it would help !

All the best x

is an excellent website - they have an online community too - side by side

Hi Siobhan,

Just wanted to reach out and say hello. Also getting things off your chest is important and does not equal feeling sorry for yourself… you are always welcome to chat freely about how you feel. So please do come back and share if you wish.

Antidepressants helped me after I gave birth, but I always had that feeling of having a dark cloud over my head.

Depending on where you are and what you’re interests are, you can always look for groups/activities you could join.

Your GP could really help you make a decision about antidepressants…

Please do reach out, there are loads of lovely people out there.

Wishing you the very best.

xxx
