33 creative pregnancy announcement ideas
1. Baby boots
A sweet and subtle way to announce your pregnancy without actually saying a word is by simply holding a pair of baby boots and taking a photo.
Alternatively, you could line the boots up next your shoes to show there will be a new person about the house soon.
2. Creative card
A super-cute way to announce your big news is by writing a card to relatives as if it were 'from' the baby, with a personalised message inside.
FREE NEWBORN NAPPIES
For example, 'To Grandma, I'll see you in nine months! Love from baby [your surname].'
If you've already got a child, the card could be 'from' them, explaining they're going to be an older sibling.
You can buy pregnancy announcement cards here at Amazon.
3. Baby onesie
Hanging a baby grow on a washing line would give you the perfect opportunity to make a joke about how there will be a tonne of more laundry to do soon!
You could also lay the baby onesie out and surround it with baby socks, a cuddly toy or even a sign with your due date on it.
Take a snap and share however you like.
4. Only child no more!
If you've already got a son or daughter, you could make them a sign that says 'only child expiring' or 'only child-ing over', followed by your due date.
The announcement will be even funnier if your child looks grumpy about not having all the attention anymore.
We like this reusable sign that comes with over 70 letters. See more details here at Amazon.
5. Chalkboard notice
Writing your pregnancy announcement on a chalkboard is another way to keep it simple.
You could take a photo and share it, or hang it up in your home for people to see when they visit.
You can buy inexpensive blackboards, here at Amazon.
6. A telling T-shirt
A sweet way to announce the news to your partner could be by buying them a T-shirt that has 'mum' or 'dad' written on it.
You could then both wear the T-shirts, take a photo and share it to make the announcement to everyone else.
There are also T-shirts you can buy online, like this Friends one, that have text on them so when people read your T-shirt they'll know right away.
7. Do the maths
This is an especially great way to announce you're expecting twins.
You and your partner stand with space in between you, in which you write a '+'.
Beside you, write a '=' and then the number four. Unless both you and your partner are pregnant, people will do the maths and realise you're having twins.
Simply change the number to whatever's relevant for you.
8. Thing 1 and Thing 2
Another great idea for an older sibling is to get them a 'Thing 1' T-shirt, inspired by the Dr Seuss characters.
Get a 'Thing 2' baby grow to represent your baby and have your child pose with it.
9. Paw-some pregnancy
Pets are part of the family, so why not get them involved with your pregnancy announcement?
You could position some baby shoes by them, have them print their paws on a sign with animal-safe paint or place a 'big brother/sister' sign by them.
10. Baby on board badge
If you use public transport, you may have spotted these about – a baby on board badge is a fantastic way to not just subtly let your loved ones know about your pregnancy, but also strangers so they can give up their seat for you.
Kate Middleton was even given one when she was pregnant with Prince George in 2013. Well, if it's good enough for royalty ...
11. Pregnancy poem
Fancy yourself a wordsmith? Get creative by coming up with a poem to share the news – all you need is a pen, some paper and perhaps a rhyming dictionary, too!
Don't worry if you've got writer's block as there's loads of inspiration online.
12. Calendar countdown
Mark a calendar with your baby's due date and surround it with cute things to really get the message across.
You could include a scan pic, your pregnancy test or some baby clothes.
13. Harry Potter pregnancy news
You'll get this one right away if you're a Potterhead.
Write a sign that says: 'We solemnly swear we've been up to no good', or 'Mischief managed', alongside a photo of your baby scan or positive pregnancy test.
Even those who don't understand the Harry Potter reference (who wouldn't?!) will see the baby clues and get it.
14. Scratch card clue
Whether the scratch card requires you to match three to see the news or scratch away to reveal a message, this idea adds a hint of mystery and surprise to the pregnancy announcement.
You can buy a pack of scratch cards here at Amazon for less than a tenner or find individual cards for less than £5.
15. There's always room for cake!
Any excuse for cake and we'll take it, to be honest.
The cake could be decorated with things that hint at your pregnancy, like a milk bottle or a rattle made out of icing.
You can even buy cake toppers that say 'we're having a baby' like this one from Amazon.
16. Scrabble conundrum
Write out something like 'we are expecting' or 'I am pregnant' in Scrabble letters and then jumble them up. Others then have to solve the conundrum to find out the news.
If you haven't got Scrabble letters, simply write it out on a sign or use magnetic letters, just like Rachel Riley did on Countdown.
17. Baby balloons
When you want to make an announcement without having to actually say anything, say it with balloons instead.
You can get some letter balloons to spell out 'baby' or 'I'm pregnant'. They make a perfect backdrop for a party or when people visit.
You can buy individual gold letter balloons here at Amazon.
18. Poppin' bottles
Feeling generous? Give the people you'd like to share the news with a bottle of their preference, with a label attached that reads something like: 'laying off the booze for nine months, please drink on my behalf'.
It's a unique AND funny way to break the news.
19. Safety pin picture
Who'd have thought safety pins could look so cute? Arrange some large pins to represent the adults in your family and smaller ones to represent your kids, if you already have them.
Then, put the smallest safety pin you can find inside one of the large ones, to represent your growing baby. Take a snap and share.
20. Baby scan reveal
Pregnancy scans have a come a long way since the baby just looked like a bit of blob, so sharing the scan with others is a nice way for them to start imaging what your baby will be like.
You could either take a photo of it or make copies and send them in a card.
21. Egg-specting
If you're making the announcement around Easter, using eggs is a nice seasonal touch. Include the date as a tribute to when your little chick is due to hatch.
Plus, who doesn't love an 'egg-specting' pun?
22. Speed bump sign
Watch out for the bump! Literally.
An inventive, not-so-obvious way of spilling the beans is by holding a speed bump sign over your belly, or standing by one if it's safe to do so.
23. Announcement board
This is very trendy among celeb circles – Rochelle and Marvin Humes used a pretty sign board surrounded by accessories to announce they're expecting a son.
They can be ordered online and personalised however you like, or you could get crafty and make it up yourself.
24. Feet photo
Attention – no make up or hair brushing required for this one.
Take a photo of yours and your partner's feet together, with some baby shoes or footprints in the middle. Of course, you can include any children you already have to show your family is growing by another little person.
25. Film poster
Becoming a parent can sometimes feel like you're living in la la land, so why not make your own movie poster to announce your pregnancy?
This is a great option if you're a whizz with Photoshop, or just get someone else to do it for you.
26. Bun in the oven
There are a few ways to play on the 'bun in the oven' metaphor with your pregnancy announcement.
You could literally take a photo of a bun in the oven and write 'baked by [month the baby is due]' or pose over it with your partner.
Or, you could write that you're expecting in some flour, to represent the idea.
27. Gamer go-to
This is an ideal choice if you and/or your partner love a bit of gaming.
Write 'Player 3 has entered the game' or 'Player 3 loading' next to a game controller, and that's it! The graphics are an extra touch if you're able to do them.
28. Star Wars-inspired
A perfect way to announce you're expecting your fourth child – 'the fourth is with us'. HA, get it?
Plus, your kids will love dressing up and posing for a photo.
29. Eating for two
Spell it out with actual food like dried pasta or peas, or a funnier option (albeit more effort) could be to surround yourself with food wrappers, or sit in front of a large meal, take a photo and write 'eating for two'.
Your partner could also join in with a couple of drinks and say they're 'drinking for two'.
(N.B. Sorry to break it to you, but you don't actually need to eat for two. In fact, you don't need to eat any more than usual until your third trimester, when you need about an extra 200 calories a day)
30. Big sibling sign
If you're already a parent, it's time for your child to be promoted to big brother or sister.
A sign to announce their 'promotion' is an alternative way to actually announce your pregnancy, while letting them have the spotlight so they don't feel jealous about the new baby.
31. Baby loading bar
Draw a 'baby loading' bar onto your growing bump with washable marker pens, or hold a sign with it on in front of your belly instead.
Classic and simple!
32. Pumpkin carving
If you're making your pregnancy announcement around Halloween, carving a baby into a pumpkin would be a perfectly seasonal way of announcing the news.
Take a photo with the pumpkin lit and hold it over your belly, or you could just put a small pumpkin inside of a bigger pumpkin. 'Nuff said!
33. Avocado cuteness
Cut an avocado in half – probably best to use just before it's perfectly ripe – and take a photo. Then edit the photo so the avocado and the seed in the middle have a face. The seed, of course, represents the baby growing inside of you.
Aww!
