The official advice on eating pre-packed salad in pregnancy
Yes, it's safe to eat pre-packed and bagged salad when you're pregnant. However, you should always keep it in the fridge and eat it by the use-by-date.
If you don't store pre-packed salad correctly or eat it after the use-by-date, bacteria can form, which can sometimes lead to food poisoning.
The NHS also says you should wash all salad ingredients and fruit and vegetables thoroughly before using. This is because they could have soil on them. Soil can contain a parasite that causes the infection toxoplasmosis. In rare cases, toxoplasmosis can cause miscarriage and complications during pregnancy.
