The official advice on eating cream in pregnancy
Good news! Cream is generally safe to eat during pregnancy.
According to the NHS, pasteurised cream is safe to eat. Regular cream sold in shops in the UK is pasteurised, and that includes single cream, double cream and whipped cream.
The only exception is raw, or unpasteurised cream. Raw or unpasteurised cream is sometimes sold in farmers' markets and farm shops. This can contain a form of bacteria called listeria, which can cause food poisoning. You're more susceptible to food poisoning while you're pregnant. While it's unlikely to harm your baby, it can be very unpleasant, so it's best to avoid raw or unpasteurised cream while you're pregnant.
