Hi has anyone had any experience with norahisterone with a young teen? My dd is 14 & although her periods aren't completely regular, according to her cycle from the last few months she is very likely to have one either at the start or in the middle of our holiday in April. It's a beach holiday & she is really upset at the thought of this, to be honest it will ruin the experience for her. I've not used norahisterone myself but from reading reviews online I'm not sure I would want her to take it but then again she'll have a miserable week if she can't delay the dates. Maybe going on the pill would be a less extreme option but not sure if you can do this just for a month? Has anyone else been in this situation with their dd?
Yes u can get the pill for holidays that will delay it ill be doing some for my 12 year old . Ask the doctors x
If GP says it’s safe then I’d say let her use it - presumably less side effects than the pill ?
Just a thought , I think there are period proof swimwear ranges (like the underwear )
Would that make a difference for her ?
Enjoy your trip x
I did use the pill a couple of times, when we were going to Disney for 2 weeks and i couldn't face having to deal with a period on a holiday that took me years to save up for.
But i'm not sure if a doctor will agree to it for a 14 year old, hopefully he will, if you explain that he periods are bad, and that it would make a huge difference.
I have taken norethisterone pills myself to delay periods, a couple of times for holidays and once for a family celebration which would have been an absolute nightmare without. It can be a bit hit & miss as you have to take it a couple of days before your estimated first day of period (so a bit of guestimation unless you are very regular) and then keep taking the tabs for as long as you wish to delay. It works well but period can be on the heavy side when it finally comes after stopping the tablets.
I would discuss with her GP and give all the details to your daughter so she understands what is involved. But it does sound like she'd be much happier delaying her period so she - and you - can enjoy your hols together :)
We had some prescribed for my daughter when she was 15 for the same reason. Unfortunately she came on early and didn't end up taking it. We then had to ask local ladies for a sanitary towel for my daughter as we were on an excursion in the middle of nowhere in Venzuela. Nightmare. So if you get it make sure she takes it in advance.
I was in the same predicament a few years ago with my then 13 year-old. Discussed it with her and then her doctor, and norethisterone was prescribed. Got to say, it was a very memorable holiday, for all the wrong reasons. Her mood swings were TERRIBLE. The medication just did not agree with her at all. It was like it changed her whole personality. She had to stop taking it, and she was almost back to her normal, sunny self two days later.
The following year I bought her some period swimwear and it was the perfect solution.
