20 baby names inspired by coronavirus (you know it'll happen)
1. Corona
No? Actually, yeah! This name really exists ...
A woman in India gave birth to twins in March, during lockdown.
Mum Preeti Verma and husband Vinay decided to name one of them Corona.

Any guesses what the other one was called?
2. Covid
... yep, you guessed it. Covid.
Preeti told news agency Press Trust of India: 'the delivery happened after facing several difficulties, and therefore, me and my husband wanted to make the day memorable.'
'When the hospital staff also started calling the babies Corona and Covid, we finally decided to name them after the pandemic,' she said.
Well, their names are memorable AND unique, that's for sure.
3. Demi
Isn't this just a sweet girls' name?
Certainly is. Unless it's short for 'pandemic' of course.
Demi actually means 'half' from Greek origin, so people would never know it was a nod to the virus.
4. Faith
The whole world has had to have a lot of faith during the coronavirus pandemic, so naming your daughter Faith would actually make a touching tribute and serve as a subtle reminder of this difficult period.
5. Florence
Florence is a pretty girls' name of Latin origin, meaning 'flourishing' and 'prosperous'.
The corona connection here would be to founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, and the temporary NHS Nightingale hospitals, which were set up to help our NHS cope with the large numbers of patients with the virus.
6. Iris
Iris means 'rainbow' from its Greek origin – a lovely but oh-so subtle way to remember the coronavirus rainbows in windows and on pavements, outside homes and on T-shirts.
Every time you look at your little Iris, you'll remember how the nation rallied together.
7. Isola
Even if this girls' name is a take on the word 'isolation', it actually sounds quite pretty ... and it's a real name, too!
Of Celtic origin, Isola means 'island'.
8. Joe
What about Joe or Wicks for a baby boy, after the nation's favourite PE teacher Joe Wicks?
Remember when homeschooling first started and we didn't know what we'd do without him? Ah, good times.
9. Kovy
A cute nickname for COVID-19, perhaps?
Aw, look at little Kovy yawning, so sweet ...
See? It doesn't sound TOO bad.
10. Lockdown
As IF there is a baby out there named Lockdown.
Yep, it's a real one folks.
Another couple in India explained to New Delhi Television Limited why they picked the *ahem* special name for their son:
'I named him after Lockdown as we all are reeling under [the] COVID-19 pandemic ... My boy will remind everyone to take precautions against COVID-19, to save themselves and the nation.'
Baby boy Lockdown has certainly got a lot to carry on his little shoulders!
11. Locke
Locke for a boy or Lockie for a girl – the more hip and trendy version of Lockdown. Well, maybe.
More than 20 babies in the UK were actually name Lockie in 2018!
12. Patience
Don't we know this feeling all too well?
Patience would be a pretty name for a baby girl.
We're trying to be extremely patient with lockdown and getting back to normal life, but forgive us if sometimes we lose it a bit when we're in a virtual meeting and our kids decide it's time to have a poo.
13. Rain
Rain or Rainbow, as another nod to the coronavirus rainbows.
Spelling it 'Reign' would make the connection more subtle, but the name Rain has become increasing in popularity over the years anyway.
14. Rona
After a while, when we couldn't be faffed with saying 'coronavirus' every time we talked about it, 'rona became the perfect nickname.
Before all this, Rona was best known as a Scottish and Norwegian name, meaning 'might'.
15. Sanny
Short for sanitiser, of course!
A baby from India was given the name Sanitiser at birth, as his dad, Omveer Singh, explained to India Today Television how he wanted it to be a 'contribution' to the fight against COVID-19.
Nice thought, however, we reckon it would only help if baby Sanitiser could ACTUALLY sanitise people?
'We have named our baby Sanitiser because it is being used by everyone at present to deter the spread of germs on our hands,' Omveer said.
16. Stockpilia
Stockpilia is a gorgeous take on stockpiling ...
Too far?
17. Andy
Andy seems like a perfectly normal name – short for Andrew, or even Andrea, right?
Technically, it could also be short for Andrex, as a nod to the toilet roll brand ...
What?!
It's a subtle reminder of how much air time toilet roll took up thanks to stockpiling at the start of the pandemic.
18. Tom
Tom is a sweet nod to 100-year-old Colonel Tom, the nation's sweetheart who raised over £32 million for the NHS by walking 100 lengths of his garden.
He would've inspired a lot of people and will even be receiving a knighthood.
19. Tina
Tina is of Greek origin and is short for Christina ... or quarantine, you know, whichever takes your fancy the most.
20. Virelai
Okay, so Virelai kind of sounds like viral and virus, but it's technically also the name of a medieval French verse used in poetry and music, soooo ...
Yeah, okay, it sounds like virus.
