Hi, so I’ve just deregistered my daughter from school, she was supposed to start her GCSEs this year but she’s so behind as she is never at school due to mental health and she is also autistic and has adhd.

Im a bit lost on where to start to be honest. Although this wasn’t a spare of the moment thing, I have been thinking about this for quite a while, but now it’s here I feel out of my depth. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hiya, I deregistered my 8 year old 3months ago because of the same reasons. I searched fb groups for my local homeschooling community and found so many people local to me who are homeschooling. So that would be my advise for a first step. The great thing about home education is you do not have to follow the national circuculum. Does your child have any passions/interests/hobbies? Say she likes experimenting with make up, she could set up an Instagram or tiktok account, create amazing videos and get pictures to create a sort of portfolio. Are you intending to do gcses at any point? Lots of colleges accept children without gcses and will allow her to do functional skills alongside a course she is interested in. Functional skills are equal to gcses on a CV. If you are keen for her to do gcses please be aware you have to pay and get no help or funding. You can however sit one gcses at a time and focus on studying for one gcse at her own pace. The local authority will probably be in touch in around three months and will ask questions regarding your child's education, again fb groups are super helpful and it's worth reading up what the LA can legally ask from you as sometimes they over step the mark and ask for pictures of work and home visits. Im more than happy to answer any more questions if you have any on your mind. I did plenty of research before I finally deregistered so like to think I know what I'm talking about 😂

Legally she doesn't have to sit down and write for hours on end and for most home ed families that was the pro emblem with school to begin with. She can learn what ever her heart desires (or what you feel she should know)

I started my son with life skills, basic cooking, cleaning and looking after himself. Get up, get washed, brush teeth and get dressed as he was so drained from school he didn't deem these tasks as important xx

Hi, I have often thought about home educating with my neuro-divergent daughter over the years but feel out of my depth thankfully at the moment school is working with my daughter's needs plus she also has an EHCP with the school to follow. Do you have an EHCP in place? There are lots of home education groups on social networking sites ie Facebook they are a wealth of information and meet-ups. I have also signed my child upto a online education program to help her along the educational path way to help with the missing building blocks.

Hugs to you
