i wanted some ideas of options.

my child did really well at GCSE, but not hates sixth form it’s causing anxiety, headaches, stomach aches, nausea and affecting sleep. She’s now using sleeping tablets prescribed by the GP.

Shes withdrawn and always in her room. It’s a struggle to get her to go and it’s getting worse.

she said it’s just too strict and she can’t be herself.

she dislikes one of the A levels but can’t change it but enjoys the other two.

I just want to know options at this stage I can’t find any apprenticeships in the field of psychology.

i was thinking can she do online A levels is there funding?

I looked into T levels but not one in the subject.

What are options, she’s changed so much and says she’s always sad.

She still wants to go to uni also.

Hi Shirlyn,

We've moved your thread into our drop-in clinic child mental health board, so you can get the advice and support you need.

Hi Shirlyn,

I’m Lauren one of the parent supporters here on Netmums. Your daughter sounds like she is really struggling in sixth form. You’ve told us that she is really sad.

Is she getting any support such as counselling? It would be worth getting her someone to talk to about how she is feeling if she is low like this.

In terms of the course and other options. Could you make an appointment to discuss it with school further and look at options? They may also be able to point her in the direction of alternatives.

Hi,

My son also did really well in his GCSE's and stayed on for the two years for his A Levels. He also hated it and ended up wasting both of those years. He was devastated to find he hadn't done enough to go to university.

If it is at all possible, is there a local college she could go to? That's what my son finally did and he didn't look back. He left college liking most of the tutors and no longer felt like he was being treated like a child. He was much happier and finished with 3 distinctions and yes he finally went to university.

It may not be for everyone but may be worth checking out. I really wish her luck and hope she finds her way soon.

Sorry to read this

Aee theee any colleges she could transfer to ?

These are less formal than schools (treat as adults etc ) but more independence expected from the student .

My daughter left sixth form in July last year and is doing an access course distance learning as she didn’t do well in A levels . Unis accept these .

She did have to pay though .

Nothing is worth the unhappiness

good luck
