When did you give your toddler a pillow and a duvet?

My son turned 2 in August and is still sleeping in his cot. We have a toddler bed for him but at the mo we're in no rush to transfer him until I get pregnant again. (Which could be anytime - fingers crossed)!
Should he have a pillow now he is 2? Also I am still putting him in sleeping bags at night and had'nt really thought about changing to a duvet until my friend mentioned it to me the other day.
Just wondered what everyone else does!
Thanks! Nat xx

Hey everyone,
Netmums Moderator here, just dropping in with some official information...
NHS advice says that pillows and duvets should not be used under the age of one; however, they don't say exactly when to introduce them.

It's hard to find official UK information on exactly when's the best time to introduce a pillow or duvet, however the US Healthline recommends introducing them from about 18 months.
They also offer the following tips which may help:
"The recommended age for pillow introduction is around the same time children can move from sleeping in a crib to sleeping in a toddler bed with a safety rail — or even a mattress placed on the floor — but consult your pediatrician about your child’s specific readiness."
"When shopping for the right pillow, avoid choosing a pillow that’s too big — this may help decrease the risk of suffocation. A firm pillow also is better for still-developing necks and spines."

I have had my son who is 2 1/2 in a bed since he was 13 months old as he could climb out of his cot. He also has a duvet and a pillow
They can have this from 12 months i think it is
Personally i wish i never gave him a pillow as they are bad for posture someone told me this after i had given it.
It is entirelly upto you though when you feel he needs one. You can get cot size pillow and duvets from IKEA which will help him get used to them

both mine had started getting really restless and settling down on our pillows so we got them their own at about 12 months.
BUT, not a normal, standard pillow, but baby ones that are only less than 1cm thick.
neither one of mine have a duvet. it depends on the child really and how he sleeps. if he wriggles and is all over the bed, a sleeping bag is a better option in my opinion.

...DD has had pillow since going into her cot at 3 months. In hospital her cot was propped up one end. As much as we tried we couldn't get her to sleep flat. We tried propping up the legs of her cot but it never helped but putting a thinish pillow under the bottom sheet did help. She also had a baby quilt from about 7 or 8 months with a tucked in flanelette sheet - she wasn't happy in the growbags anymore and she never was a real mover and slept in our room so we didn't feel worried about her slipping under the covers.
Her pillow was taken out from under the sheet a larger one given at about 18months when she had a very bad cold and couldn't breath laying down. We've just been on holiday and she slept better with a proper quilt so will be getting one for this winter - if I can find one that fits a cotbed bed

Introducing toddler to a duvet!!
Having recently seen him build his duvet and bears into a small tower to rest his head on, I think it might be time now to head to Mothercare for a small pillow
