Hey, my newborn seems to want a dummy in order to settle in his basket but he is spitting it out every ten mins and then becomes upset so I have to put it back in. I don't want this cycle to continue as its so tiring!

What can I do?

Would love to know the answer to this. .. spend about an hour putting it back in every night before he settles. HD gas found his hands and constantly knocks it out then crystal.  Fingers crossed someone has some ideas. x

I just leave it out once my son has spat it out. He really only uses it to get to sleep during the day though.

Use MAM dummies and tap it when it's in his mouth

My little boy used to do it constantly, but if he wanted it id give it back, but if he settled himself id leave it. He even still does it sometimes now, but its been such a comfort to him, it was the only thing that would comfort him when he was in hospital at 5 weeks when i couldnt hold him. He can put it in himself when hes under his chin now

Our baby used to do this when he had dummies, it was a right pain!!! Then one day I was trying to put it back in and every time he pushed it back out with his tongue and didn't want it so we stopped giving it to him and he hasn't asked for it since - this was about 2 weeks ago now. He self soothes in his Moses basket and we normally give him a bottle before bed but put him in his Moses to fall asleep himself. I have noticed when he's over tired, he asks for another bottle and then instantly falls asleep before even drinking it!

Hi Helen, I see this is an older post, but I am in the exact same position with my 12 weeks old and she's been like this since 3 weeks old. Just wondering if you had any luck in the end or any useful tips. Xx

we usually use the swaddle to keep the dummy in when he’s falling to sleep, then when he’s no longer suckling and it’s obvious he’s properly sleeping we take the swaddle off the dummy and if he it comes out in his sleep he doesn’t wake back up, but he usually just has it to fall asleep with anyway, give it a try every baby is different you’ve just got to be consistent with it and they will take it as a cue for bedtime, so try avoid using it in the daytime

I'd like to know this too!

My 4month slept through the night from 4weeks old but always needs a Dummy and to be swaddled to settle. He's recently started rolling so I've stopped swaddling him. When he's trying to sleep, he likes to hold his Dummy or rub his hands over his face so now, he's constantly knocking it out and cries until it's put back in. I'm up every hour putting his Dummy back in or he won't go back to sleep. I tried weaning him off the Dummy but he refused to sleep without it 😩.

I've just put him down for a nap in his swaddle so I can get some rest.

I've read it's unsafe to Swaddle babies once the start rolling but he sleeps so much better being swaddled.

Sorry, I know my answer isn't much help.
