My baby boy is 8 months old. He is yet to sleep through the night and I'm so exhausted. I also have an almost 4 year old girl so it's very hard. People have recommended Horlicks to help him sleep but I've heard others say not to use Horlicks at his age. What does anyone think?

I don't get it. What magic properties do you think Horlicks has?

Hi. I have a six month old who has not slept through for two months now and I was at my wits end too as I was so tired.  He is breast fed and I started feeding him at night when he was going through a growth spurt and I think he got used to it! I imagine Horlicks is full of sugar and I would steer clear but I bought Hipp organic goodnight milk last week. It has baby cereal in it I believe and you can only give baby one feed at night with it but so far things are so much better. I haven't needed to feed him once during the night since he has had it and he is going through until seven now rather than 5am! The first night he wouldn't take it and cried as it is a lot thicker so I bought a variable flow teat the next day and he has taken it ever since. Definitely worth a try!

i wouldn't give horlicks to my girls and they're quite a bit older...

the sugar content is way too high, and even if the malt did make them sleepy theyd still wake up if they wanted to..

we used night milk for night feeds but honestly for us it was no different to the normal milk, didn't make much difference anyway.

unfortunately its a case of just riding out the storm.
some babies are brilliant sleepers, others not so much.
hopefully your little one will settle soon though.

I wouldn't use Horlicks because of the sugar.

But how about chamomile tea?

You can buy pure herbal chamomile tea from supermarkets and just give it to him in a bottle.

It is also great for teething, as it is the same ingredients as teething granules.

Very soothing and something so natural to try if you don't want to give milk feeds.

My 10month old is no where close to sleeping through but I've never questioned it. I also have a 3.5 year old and although it's tiring it's part of the parenting deal.
I think if u except it and have no expectation for a full nights sleep it makes it less infuriating

I very much doubt Horlicks would make any difference but have you thought about going into a herbal place for suggestions.

I was only asking views as been told by 2 others that this helped their babies settle. I wasn't asking for my benefit. I'm very capable of coping and I knew my son was going to be a bad sleeper but I'm trying things to help him feel more settled to make him happier

Hi Hayley

You poor thing - that's a long time to go without a proper night sleep.  Yeah, I'd also stay clear of Horlicks, but maybe try one of the night time milks that have been suggested.

Best of luck

Can you tell us your babies routine ie feeding napping milk drinking dummy etc from morning til night and it might help us give you some tips. My little one is 9 months and we've had 2 months of solid sleeping after MANY try's of different things x

I occasionally give it to my 20 month old. I use the light version and only use a small teaspoon because of the sugar content. To be honest I only give it if I dont feel she has really eaten enought that day and may benefit from the added vitamins in it. I refuse to buy toddler milks on principle and horlicks is something I can use too.

I dont think it helps her sleep any better though.

Banana is supposed to be good for aiding sleep! We gave our Lb warm banana porridge and cuddles when he was struggling to sleep as it releases the sleepy signals in the brain apparently! Worth a shot! Good luck hun! x
